TechDoctor and MTI Launch Research on Women's Menstrual Cycles and Quality of Life

Over 1,500 participants enrolled: Utilizing "Lunaluna" app user data and wearable devices Aiming to develop quantitative evaluation indicators for menstrual-related symptoms

TechDoctor Inc. (CEO: Kazumichi Minato, Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "TechDoctor") has commenced research on symptoms and quality of life (QOL)associated with women's menstrual cycles. This research is being conducted with MTI Ltd. (CEO: Toshihiro Maeta, Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter"MTI") entrusted with the recruitment of research participants and collection and provision of applicable user data.In this research, among users of the women's healthcare service "Lunaluna" app operated by MTI, those who applied and consented to participate in the research are targeted. The aim is to comprehensively and continuously capture the relationship with menstrual-related symptoms and QOL by integrating all items of physical condition records (excluding memos and personally identifiable information) entered during the survey period in the "Lunaluna" app, such as menstruation dates and menstrual cycles, questionnaire data, and biometric data such as heart rate, sleep, and activity levels obtained from wearable devices. With over 1,500 participants already enrolled at the start of the research, we will advance the development of quantitative evaluation indicators with a view to visualizing women's unique physical condition changes and applications to preventive medicine.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BACKGROUND

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TechDoctor is working on developing digital biomarkers that objectively evaluate the presence or absence of disease and treatment effects using daily biometric data obtained from wearable devices and other sources.

In this research, with the cooperation of users of the "Lunaluna" app operated by MTI, we will analyze by combining all items of physical condition records(excluding memos and personally identifiable information) entered in the app during this research survey period, such as menstruation dates and menstrual cycles, questionnaire information, and biometric data such as heart rate, sleep, and activity levels obtained from wearable devices.By utilizing such diverse data in an integrated manner, we aim to capture women's health status more deeply and from multiple perspectives. In particular, we aim to establish quantitative evaluation indicators for menstrual-related symptoms and chronic discomfort that have often been described qualitatively, and to contribute to self-care support, early response, and preventive medicine.

The knowledge and data obtained from this research are also intended for secondary use in future planned medical research utilizing wearable devices. We will explore further medical application possibilities based on appropriate ethical considerations and procedures.

RESEARCH OVERVIEW

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Implementation Period: July 2025 - March 2026
Number of Participants: Approximately 1,500

Target: Those who use the "Lunaluna" app and applied and consented to participate in the research Collected Data:

• "Lunaluna" (app) data (all items of physical condition records entered in the app during this research survey period, such as menstruation dates and menstrual cycles (excluding memos and personally identifiable information))

• Questionnaires (questions about QOL and symptoms)
• Heart rate, sleep, and activity level data obtained from wearable device
"Google Fitbit"
*This research is being conducted after review and approval by an external ethics review committee.

FUTURE INITIATIVES

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Based on the knowledge gained from this research, TechDoctor will advance the following initiatives:

• Development of digital biomarkers to quantitatively capture changes in symptoms
and quality of life (QOL) associated with the menstrual cycle

• Creation of new medical and healthcare services that detect women's discomfort
and disease risks early and support self-care and early intervention

• Provision of clinical research support and health support solutions to pharmaceutical, food, and healthcare-related companies, etc.

TechDoctor can comprehensively analyze diverse data including not only wearable device data but also self-reported information and questionnaires within apps, and is capable of consistent efforts from research to social implementation.

We will continue to pursue new possibilities for medicine and healthcare combining sensing data and subjective data, contributing to the health and well-being of more people.

* About Digital Biomarkers
Digital biomarkers are indicators for continuously and objectively evaluating
the presence or absence of disease, changes in disease status, and treatment
effects based on daily biometric data obtained from smartphones, wearable devices,
and other sources.

While traditional biomarkers were primarily "point data" measured temporarily at medical institutions, digital biomarkers are characterized by the ability to continuously acquire "line data" from daily life. Based on indicators such as exercise, sleep, and heart rate, they are expected to be used for early disease detection, treatment monitoring, and as new endpoints in drug development.

Development has been progressing overseas since around 2019, and attention is also increasing in Japan.
